Bring Your Horse on Holiday!

Trefrane House and Lodge are two of our holiday houses, situated between the beautiful beaches of Nolton Haven and Newgale. These two houses (which can be opened into one property) were formerly the the old working farmhouse of Trefrane. This farm has some really beautiful old stone barns. For some time we have been mulling over the idea of providing quality accommodation for horses, and over the spring we have converted one of these buildings into three light and airy internal stables.

This venture has been on our minds for a while, so when Sophie Johnson from Oxford e-mailed earlier in the year enquiring about she and 2 friends bringing husbands and horses on holiday, it gave us the impetus to get moving on this project!

Our first equine guests gave it the hooves up! (Please read the review from Sophie).

The Stables are situated about 75 yards from Trefrane House and Lodge, therefore making renting one or both of these houses really convenient. Trefrane is ideally situated for beach riding and is on a quiet coastal road. You could take advantage of our escorted ride service to introduce your horse to the sea for the first time (much easier to do in the company of an experienced  horse that has done it many times before). The escorted ride also gives you the chance to ride over up to 400 acres of private land and tracks. Alternatively if you just want to do your own thing, then we can help you plan routes taking in local bridle ways and common land.

This option of bringing your horse on holiday with you is only available outside the main school holiday periods.

Lawson and James have quite got the bug for converting barns into stables, so please do not be put off if a group of you wanted to bring more than 3 horses – the speed and quality of their stable building will amaze you!!

Facilities include:

  • 3 internal stables within a traditional stone barn, including lights and automated water bowls
  • Home grown Haylage (provided in 20kg bags) and straw bedding included
  • Grazing paddocks available at most times of the year – can be split with electric fencing
  • Wheelbarrows, mucking out forks, yard brushes etc

Review

Here's a review from Sophie Johnson, the first to take advantage of our new stables to hire.

"The Three Amigos, Sophie, Catherine and Anne were looking for a holiday cottage with stables where they could take their own horses for a beach riding holiday. After much searching and googling we found Nolton Stables, but oh no, they didn't have any stables for rent.

After a conversation with Gill and Lawson, they offered to convert one of their barns for our 3 horses, we were over the moon, amazing.

When we arrived there was the most perfect set up, 3 lovely brand new stalls in the beautiful old stone barn, with all mod cons, automatic watering, electric lights, hay for bedding and the most delicious haylage – and all of this in the most idyllic surroundings. The cottage just at the top of the garden, the ponies down on the yard within a stone's throw. We were in heaven.

The hacking and beach riding was amazing, all within easy reach, no trailering necessary. We loved being able to have the horses right there with us. Husbands went exploring while us girls went riding, it was magical, we loved every minute of it.

Lawson and his team went the extra mile to make sure all our needs and those of the horses were taken care of. We can only say a huge thank you, and we will be back again, but for longer next time!

The Three Amigos and the horses thoroughly recommend Nolton Stables for a fab beach riding holiday."
